The man's request was oddly selfless. Many humans did not think further than themselves or their immediate circle. Especially Westerners. "What you ask of me is nothing I can do... I can, and will, protect the ones devout to me. If you believe, I can protect you. If they believe, I can protect them. I am only the guard of those who want me as their guard. You need to convince them, not me." He paused. It was a role he had only taken on later. The same goes for the magic. He didn't really remember how it came to be, only that it had not always been that way. In the same vein, he had slightly different roles elsewhere. In places, he was a creator, in others a mere companion.
"As for the magic... that depends on how you see the world..." Kai explained. Magic only worked if you believed in it.
