"A year?" he repeated, in a mixture of shock and disbelief. He wasn't sure what he had expected, to be honest, but it was a hell of a lot of information to be taking in all at once, especially when so little of it made any logical sense. "They've grown up.. what?! There are like.. multiple generations of families living here?" he asked, feeling the enormity of it start to sink in.
He listened with a sort of numbness as Dan continued to explain, letting the information wash over him and whatever stuck for now would stick. Years. He could be in this strange sort of Limbo for years. There had to be a reason, a purpose to it.
"Shit," he said simply when Dan seemed finished explaining. "Sorry," he added, and then- "But you know - shit, that is... a lot." He sighed, and ran a hand across his face. "Uh... well. You said coffee?"
