A smile pinched the corners of his shells mouth once more. "It's fine. Don't need it" he replied. Had he expected her to say no? He sort of expected her to laugh and say goodnight. Walk off to fetch water and come back to a snoring Remus shaped Constantine.
John shifted over on the bed, making room. He pulled the blanket out from underneath him and tossed it aside so that they could pull it up over them if they needed to. There was something about feeling tired that made the body feel cold easier. There was probably a biological reason for it but John wasn't sure what it was. And he was beyond exhausted.
"Thanks" was all he could manage to say. John didn't tend to say thank you very often. Or please, or sorry. At least, he rarely said those things honestly and truthfully. And for that moment, he actually meant it.
