Sophia often split her time between the Medbay and Lacey's diner, the diner during busy eating times, and the medbay in her 'spare' time. Since no one was in, it was all about keeping the place clean, making sure bandages and emergency meds were stocked where they needed to be stocked. That the crash cart was charged, any used instruments were sanitized and rewrapped, and made sure the pharmacy was stocked, prescriptions were filled and ready for the people that needed them. It was mostly busy work, that way Dr. Cuddy would only have to worry about taking care of the people that needed care. She had been looking at the clipboard in her hands, going over her list for the day, checking off things she had done, and things she hadn't, when she heard them. It was just a shuffle at first. Just loud enough to draw her attention away from her task. Then came the gurgled growled breathing that stole her breath. She would know that sound anywhere. Even eight years later. It haunted her dreams. She stood frozen in her spot. Hoping that the sound was something that could be explained away. But the shuffling got closer. And the first one she saw, not a face she knew so this was no nightmare, caused her to give a little barked yelp of surprise. Then she made her legs move. They didn't move fast, but she was all but trapped. Quick thinking had her pulling open one of the cabinet doors, and ducking down in it. The room was little more than a supplies closet, but thank god it was built for organization. She squeezed into the cupboard just in time enough for the first Walker to reach it and start pounding against it with it's dead meaty hand. She pulled out her phone. She had to warn people. A CB message was all she could think of. |
