Entry tags:astrid, brenna, brynhild, dan torrance

Who: Astrid, Brenna, Bryn, Dan and Hródolf
Where: Beach! on the Island.
What: Relaxing and having fun
When: Backdated a little to Friday, February 8th
Open: To people who are on the beach?

[OoC: dialogue in square brackets is in Old Norse]

Hródolf was delighted with the beach. The sand was white, the sea was blue and sparkling and warm and the sun shone down on everything. The little boy was as naked as the day he was born, splashing through the water and letting sand pour through his fingers into the water. And his mam was playing with him, her skirt bundled up over one arm and digging in the sand for shells for him with her free hand. And sometimes splashing him, which made him squeal with laughter.

There were little fish in the water too, flitting in and round his feet when the water was deep enough. His mam pointed them out to him and grinned as he tried to catch them with his still-pudgy little hands.

Astrid stood up straight after the third failed attempt at catching the little fish, and stretched her back before looking round to see where everyone else was. She couldn't see her mam, but that didn't bother her too much. And she could see where Dan was, stretched out on the beach under the shade of a tree, most likely asleep and soaking up heat like a cat. Their food was beside him, so it made sense to keep an eye on him. And Brenna was... splashing around in the water and being far noisier than Hródolf ever had been. Astrid grinned at the sight.

[I see you're having fun,] she called over, and then laughed when Hródolf sat in the water with a loud splash. [I don't know which of you is enjoying it more!]

Bryn had been off taking stock of all the booze on the island. And marking it in her head where it was, so that she could harald it off to her Club before the door closed again. It was good to see Mitchell's Pub in one piece again. She recalled it being a place of merriment, and without the people she had in her life now, it had been heartbreaking when it was gone.

But that hadn't taken long. And Astrid's suggestion that they all enjoy the beach had been such a good one. Though she was dressed in more modern clothes. A simple white, with large red polka dots, halter top bathing suit with tattered blue jean cut offs over top. She wanted as much skin as possible, without being indecent, to taste the sun.

She smiled at her girls, her grandson, playing in the water, as she joined Dan under the tree. More to check on him than anything else.

Dan was lying on his winter coat, not wanting to get sand in under his clothes in case it annoyed the cuts on his back, and hoping that the thicker padding would help as well. The heat was fantastic, far far better than all the shitty snow back on the station, and he was indeed trying to soak as much of it up as he could. He was as comfortable as he could get, and it didn't take long before he was dozing.

After a while, he was aware of someone sitting down by him, though... Bryn. Cool. He blinked himself awake and turned his head to look over at her. "Hi, Bryn," he mumbled, and started to try and push himself up into a sitting position.

"Hi, Dan." She said just loud enough for him to hear her. Her attention turned from her daughters to him. He was in rough shape, but that was to be expected. He had been attacked, it seemed. And without outside help humans healed slowly. It was hard not to just... offer. But now that he was seeing her daughter, the resulting dreams would be weird.

"How are you feeling?" Hoping he was feeling better than he had days ago when the attack had happened.

Dan eventually managed to sit up after rolling slightly to his right so he could use his good arm as leverage. "Like shit," he admitted, and scrubbed at his eyes to help himself wake up fully. His speech was still mumbled, often slurred or indistinct, and probably would be until the swelling went down and he felt like he could move his jaw again.

"You?" he asked, trying to work out which way of sitting was most comfortable, and settled for pulling his knees up in front of him.

"You did not have to get up. You looked comfortable." She folded her legs to sit lotus style, before she swept her ponytail over her shoulder. Preening for no reason, before she stopped herself.

"I'm... I don't know. I'm happy to be here and everything not be dead. And being able to take advantage of the sun, and the beach, but all the vanishings are plaguing me. Especially Isabel."

Dan shook his head when she said he'd looked comfortable. The cuts on his back weren't as bad as the rest of his injuries, but they sure as hell weren't comfortable.

Then she mentioned Isabel. He reached over and put his good hand on her knee. "m'sorry," he said.

Bryn let a little sigh escape her. "I should be used to it. Expect it even. But I had been thinking about making the wish that would bring Leif into this reality. I just moved too slow." Or perhaps she had moved just the right amount. Isabel would have gone home pregnant with a half breed. And how well would that have gone over?

She looked over at him. "Can I do anything to make you more comfortable?" She held up her her hand and discreetly pointed at her wrist. The dreams would plague them both. But the ones she'd shared with Rawdon hadn't been too bad.

Dan just nodded as she talked about Isabel. He didn't know what to say, not that it would have come out right anyway, so he settled for nodding and a brief knee-squeeze.

Her offer, though. He blinked and then swallowed hard. He'd be healed, no headache or problems talking, no constant ache in his left arm... But he remembered the feeling of it back in the Overlook, and he recognized his body's reaction to just the thought of taking Bryn's blood again. His dad kept saying, one vice for another. This was one vice he did not want. Plus, the dreams would be awkward, and he couldn't help but glance down at Brenna. "No. Thanks," he replied, and ducked his head.

His glance over at Brenna spoke volumes. She nodded, and couldn't hide the smile that turned up her lips a little. "Alright, if I can't that way, is there any other? Build you up a sand sofa or lounge? Go fetch some pain medication? I could go and be back before they even noticed I was gone." Her daughters didn't know what she was. That she was anything different than them Bryn knew that would have to change eventually. But she didn't know how to change it.

A loud laugh escaped Brenna's lips before she clasped it quickly, afraid to have woken up Dan if he had gone to sleep. He had seemed drowsy enough to need it. But a moment later, she was grinning again.

[Aye, are you sure that I am not Hródolf's mother?] the sister said, glancing up at her older counter part. [At least, he has inherited my good sense!] She laughed at herself. At that she waded over to them and jumped into the water right in front of her nephew. A big splash soaked her legs and his body. She had been careful not to let it reach his eyes.

Astrid smirked when her sister stopped her laughing, and carefully did not look back up the beach towards the reason why she quietened herself. Nor did she say anything to her sister, no matter how much her eyes sparkled with humour.

[Aye, I'm sure you're not, for I know I was there when he was born, and I'd be looking to have words with that husband of mine as well,] she replied, just before Brenna landed right in front of her and Hródolf. Brenna and Hródolf were not the only ones to get splashed. [Gods, Brenna!]

Hródolf had laughed at his aunt Brenna splashing, but stopped when he looked round at his mam's yell. Then he decided that splashing his mam was the best thing, so he tried throwing water at her too, giggling the whole time.
