Darcy took a breath, and gave his friend a nod of agreement. Facts were good, facts he could listen to and process without attaching any emotional meaning to the words. They were also something to focus on, to distract him from the throbbing pain in his lower back. Miguel went on to explain, with great scientific detail, and although Darcy was able to follow some of it, he sometimes found himself hung up on things he'd mentioned three sentences ago, and so he missed bits.
One things was certain though. He really hadn't known any of it. He was an educated man, but the understanding of fertility - especially female fertility - just wasn't there in his own time, even among medical professionals. He wasn't sure how much of it was common knowledge now, and how much was because Miguel was a geneticist from the future.
"That was rather a lot of information," he said after a quiet moment. "Thank you, Miguel. You are never patronising, although I must admit that... I think every word of it was new information," he admitted on a bit of a sigh. "Is it common practice to use something like these implants, even once you are married?" he asked, after a thoughtful moment. "It is not... thought of badly? Now, I mean, not in 2099," he clarified.
