It was silly, really, but Darcy immediately felt self-conscious and embarrassed. It was very difficult to fully shake the rules and expectations of his own era, and Miguel was right. They were only just married. And just for a moment he felt a little sting of shame that he had not had enough self-control to actually wait for his wedding night. It didn't even immediately enter his head that Miguel himself was certainly not waiting. Instead, he just stayed quiet, not wanting to admit to the timescale right away.
He frowned a little at his next comments, not sure that he was entirely following. "I do not think it is a race..." he said softly. Oh. Miguel had been with Sarah longer than he had been with Ashley, perhaps he was not pleased with him. He was going to have to explain himself more clearly, as humiliating as it felt. He didn't want him to think he was trying to overtake in any sort of competition.
"I know that we are only just married, but... well... erm..." he stumbled a little, not sure how to express it without being explicit. "The first time Ashley was upset about it was... well, I suppose it must have been September," he explained, hoping that cleared it up a little more.
Now he was even more confused. "I... yes, of course..." he frowned. "Well. As you say, it is not a race, I'm sure given time..." he shrugged. He was sure he looked bloody miserable.
