He grinned as she wiggled her eyebrows, and reached into his pocket. "I found something hidden in the tree at the back after I realized the lab assistants were asleep. I know it was for me because my name was written on it with something that only shows up in infra-red," he began, and gestured towards where the dark wrapping paper lay on the sofa. "So I want to know if that happens a lot, like how the trees appeared and the weird snow. But don't answer it now, that can wait."
Then he drank some of his wine and set the glass down on the table as well before holding up the little box. It was more than obvious what it was, even before he opened it to show her the ring inside, a plain band with a small diamond. Simple, but beautiful. "This was my abuela's ring," he said, taking it out of the box, "and I loved her very much. And now it's here so it has to be worn by someone else that I love very much.
