Dan was having a crazily-good day, and it wasn't even lunch-time yet. He'd had a damn good breakfast at the Sunspot café, where Patty had been instantly charmed by Jack, and that on top of her usual inclination to try and feed Dan meant that their rather basic breakfast orders were soon joined by all kinds of extras and side dishes that she refused to charge them for. Then they'd walked off breakfast with a fairly leisurely stroll around the town, ending up at the Common, and that meant Teenytown and the Riv.
Abra was talking to him on and off while all this was going on, telling him that her mom was going to bring her over to Frazier in the afternoon so Abra could meet up with him and Lucy could go to the mall. Dan said to tell her mom and dad he'd said hello, and he got an invite for dinner at the weekend in return. David had dug out his old record player after finding some old vinyl in decent condition at a yard sale, and was claiming that listening to the albums was "research" for his book. Abra and Lucy were of the opinion that this was nonsense, and David was clearly feeling the need for some sort of back-up. All this got sent to Dan as he walked absently round Teenytown, and it was a good thing it was Jack he was with, because who else would have understood the frequent gaps in their conversation or the far-away look in Dan's eyes when he was replying to Abra?
And then Abra had to go do something "boooooooring" that apparently deserved six sleepy smiley faces and three eye-rolling ones, and that meant Dan had his mind to himself again for the time being. "You want to go see the Riv?" he asked Jack, unable to keep from grinning. "And Abra's going to be here in a couple of hours. Lucy's bringing her over and then going on to the mall for a while."
