He knew there was noise, he could feel the vibrations, but not who or what it was. But he could also pick up on scents and he already knew Sarah's. He stopped in the doorway as he picked up on her scent, the movement of her head and guessed that the noise was her voice. He knew where she was now.
"Sarah asked if her voice is too high for you to detect," Lyla said, small and bright over on his work station. He couldn't really shake his head to reply, so he thought quickly, then lifted his front right leg. He had better control over all of his legs now, although he did still get tangled up if he was going too fast. He deliberately set the foot back down, and made a N shape.
"N? No?" Lyla confirmed, which he nodded at. It wasn't so much nodding as dipping the front of his torso down, but it was quick and it worked. Then he tried to add more information, with Lyla sounding it out.
"h, e, a... Hear. S, a... You can hear Sarah."
He gave another nod, before continuing.
"2... 2 hi 4 d... Too high for details?"
Lyla's voice became similar to Sarah's after that as she repeated the message in her normal voice. "He can hear you, Sarah, but he can't make out details. And he obviously knows exactly where you are," she said to Sarah, gesturing needlessly towards where Miguel was carefully extending his "writing" leg towards Sarah.
