Jack's need flared in Dan's mind, and he looked round sharpish at his dad. "Hey," he said, determined to make his dad feel a little better, "it'll be okay. I stopped being 25 and 8, didn't I? I'll be myself again soon." Long years of not showing just how freaked out he really was came into play, and he even managed a small smile for his dad.
Then he looked back at Rae-Rae. None of this had occurred to him at all, floating or flying or any of it. And then she spread her wings and his smile was suddenly very real. "I saw them before," he realized, "in the food court. Your wings are amazing." He wanted to touch them.
