Darcy was a little surprised that she would want Lizzie to stay for dinner, and he wondered for a moment if she was just being polite or she actually wanted her to. He had to assume she was sincere, though. She wasn't the kind of woman who tended to say things that she didn't mean.
"Oh, that's very kind, but I shouldn't wish to impose any further..." Elizabeth was saying, and there was a little vulnerability there. Darcy could see that she was a little upset, although she was internally scolding herself for being so silly as to let any of it bother her in the slightest.
"It is not an imposition," he assured her, with more softness than he had shown so far.
"My aunt and uncle..." Lizzie couldn't imagine that they were the sort of people he would want to have at dinner, given how repulsive he apparently found her entire family.
"Yes, of course, they are very welcome," he nodded. She looked torn. "We shall not be offended if you say no, but truly, you and your family are always welcome here."
