Jack shook his head. Al Shockley... Well at least he'd tried to help Wendy out. But they'd lost touch after everything was said and done about the Overlook. He didn't know if it was because Al felt guilty, or what. But they hadn't needed him anyway.
"Well, the reason I quit drinking was one night me and Al was riding back, he was just as drunk as me but he was driving. And we were just about home, and he hit a bike. Hit it hard. We thought he'd killed somebody, but we never found anyone, and we looked for hours on both sides of the road, as far as we could get without breaking our necks. I remember looking in the paper for a little while after that searching for someone, or something. Nothing was ever there. It was just a bike someone had left in the middle of the road. But it had been enough to scare me straight." Except for in the hotel.
