She really did want to throw more things but none of it was actually hers. And she didn't know what was precious to him. She didn't want to risk breaking something with significant sentimental value. So instead she just clenched her fists.
When his arms went around her she rested her head against his chest, arms going around his middle. She held onto him like her life depended on it. At that moment it felt like it did.
"She's too stubborn to regret anything." Ashley sighed and closed her eyes. "The worst part about it is that I actually considered it. For one very brief moment I thought that being with you was what was causing all this." She looked up at him apologetically. "It was a very, very brief moment." She felt horrible for even thinking it at all.
"I get that she's grieving and she's not handling it well. I understand that. But this? It's too much. It's like she's punishing me for being happy." She cleared her throat and spoke softly. "What kind of a mother would do that?"
