Considering how odd the situation was, Darcy thought that there could be any number of things that she might want clarified, so he just nodded as he finished pouring her tea. He passed her cup to her, and then poured Ashley's.
Oh, God, she was going straight for the conversation he was dreading. Excellent. He tried to act unconcerned and just continue pouring tea unaffected, but it was probably obvious that he was a little embarrassed.
"I- um-" he started, but Ashley thankfully took this one for him. He placed her cup in front of her as she spoke, and gave her a very grateful look.
And then it got worse, and he was sure that he was blushing as much as he could see Ashley was. He looked from her and back to his sister, wondering if she was going to think so very badly of him. He wanted to tell her that he had spoken to the pastor, but it seemed overly defensive.
"There are... quite significant differences in social conduct, particularly surrounding courtship and... well, we are compromising a little," he tried to explain, picking his words quite carefully.
