Darcy looked back at her for a moment, thinking about it, considering what he so desperately wanted and weighing up his options. This shouldn't be such a dilemma. He should have the strength to just refuse, but he only knew that he should refuse for her sake. But she was looking at him like that, and it was hard to convince himself that she needed protecting from him.
After an agonisingly long time, he shook his head lightly. "I really do want to, but... you deserve better than this," he insisted. A secretive fumble in a park didn't really seem right for someone he loved. He moved his hand, and propped himself up a little to look at her and consider their options.
"Walk back with me. If, by the time we get there, you still want me to, you can come in and I will do... whatever you please. Or if you find the walk and the passing of time has made you change your mind, then it's fine, you can stay for lunch, or say goodbye and leave it at that," he suggested. "Or if you have already changed your mind, you can have a sandwich and I'll make pointless comments about the lack of weather," he joked a little. He just wanted her to be sure, not caught up in a moment that she might end up regretting or feeling badly about.
