Dan didn't move while Bryn spoke, other than to put an arm over his eyes. "Yeah," he rasped, sounding like he was telling lies about being okay, and then grinned up at the ceiling far above him. "You did it. It's gone!"
He turned his head to look over at Bryn after that, his grin a lot less manic now. "My dad's alive and my mom won't be in pain for the rest of her life. Thank yo-" he said, before breaking off to cough again. The taste of blood in the back of his throat was starting to turn his stomach, the aftermath of all the nosebleeds and the damage to his neck, but it would clear up soon enough. Still, he sat up slowly when he was finished coughing.
