He ducked down like Bryn wanted, and swore loudly as the entire hotel seemed to shake. But the explosion he was expecting didn't happen. They still had a little bit of time, it seemed. The sudden wrenching tearing sound he could feel all through him, though, was not something he was expecting at all.
The shrieking of the hotel in his head was one thing. He didn't like it, but he was getting used to it. Sort of. But now the shrieking had grown weaker, which was great. What Dan hadn't counted on was the fact that the Party guests were now free to react and shriek and do as they pleased. And what they wanted to do was panic and complain about the manager of the hotel, loudly and stridently. Dan clamped his hands over his ears, but it didn't stop anything; he heard everything as clear as day.
