Commander Elyssa Shepard ([info]commander_shep) wrote in [info]spinningcompass,
"Well, that's because most of us are still getting used to the place ourselves, we haven't quite been here a year yet. Except for the older versions of my kids, who grew up here." Shepard paused for a second to let that little bit sink in, but only a second. "And yes that is as weird as it sounds. But I've been here long enough to roll with the punches."

Shepard poured a splash of the whiskey into the second glass and handed it over to him. "This is a war ship. It has a war room, a giant cannon, this room started out as meeting room, where we were supposed to have civilized conversations, but usually ended up with raised voices and not so civilized language." She couldn't keep the fond smile from her features. A bunch of hot headed military people butting heads, some literally, was a good memory for her. She took a seat across from him, taking the crystal decanter with her.

She reached up and scratched at the back of her head. "I want to give you permission to be frank, and candid. Words spoken and how they're spoken will only leave this ship if you want it to." She set her glass on the table and leaned against it a little. "I give these permissions because one, I've never been part of the upper crust 'society', though I made more than most of them in a year and a lot of them were brown nose types in my company, I've never followed their rules. And two sometimes it's easier to say what you need to say if you forget society's rules for a second. I am going to be frank and candid because that's the only way I know how to be. It makes life easier, and I'm less likely to get misunderstood. So you wont get any backhanded comments where you'll have to worry if I insulted you, or threatened you. I don't like to make people read between the lines. I will entirely blame my military career on that."
