Darcy stood awkwardly as he waited, trying to appear perfectly casual and failing miserable.
When Rachel appeared, Darcy’s first thought was that Ashley’s sister had in fact been home, but she introduced herself as ‘Rachel’, the name that she had just given to her aunt. This was not what he had been expecting from an aunt- but he recalled what she had said about her father being one of fifteen, and supposed that a vast range of ages among her aunts and uncles was in fact likely.
He gave the woman a bow in return. “Yes, very pleased to meet you, Miss Sully,” he told her. Oh, this was worse than the Bennet girls with all the different Miss Sullys.
He had been about to ask after Bobby when he realised that his assertion about ages had to be wrong. “Apologies, am I mistaken? You are not Sergeant Robert Sully’s mother?”
