Darcy understood the slip up well. He'd lost his own father recently, and while everyone felt they had to comment on how difficult it had to be to take over his estate, as a landlord to so many tenants, to be responsible for his sister, and so many other duties... he never did tell anyone that none of that was the hard part at all. And reminding himself that his father was a past tense now was one of the worst parts.
Of course, he didn't say anything so terribly emotional to a man he had just met.
