Miss Sully had excused herself for the moment, and Darcy took the opportunity as a bit of a breather. He had been pleasantly surprised, however. No one had insisted upon his dancing, and the few people he had been introduced to all seemed perfectly affable indeed, even if he didn't understand their manners or some of their conversational topics.
Still, it was a lot. Darcy was not the most sociable of men, and large gatherings such as this generally made him very tense and anxious even when he wasn't dealing with electricity, pounding music, and plenty of half-naked women.
And then, as if she were reading his mind, a new woman approached and said exactly what he was thinking. "Yes, it certainly is quite the assault on the eyes," Darcy agreed, turning to give her a little bow of greeting.
