Re: Ashley & Mr Darcy
That was interesting; despite his unusual manner of dress, that Darcy supposed was simply modern casual attire for the theme of the party, Bobby Sully seemed to be much more in keeping with what he would expect from a first meeting at a social affair. Perhaps that was generally the way with the men in a family, he knew that he had often had to remind Georgiana what was and was not appropriate behaviour at public gatherings. It was a challenge that had fallen to him since the death of their parents. He could take comfort knowing that she was safely bestowed and taken care of at present.
"In that case, I apologise for my presumption, Sergeant Sully," he corrected himself quickly. "I have found that most military men present themselves in full uniform, regardless of the occasion. I see you are not above indulging in a little amusement, though," he told him, meaning it sincerely as a compliment.
It was very telling, though, about her family's status. As he'd suspected from the beginning, they were not of a higher class. Still, it was admirable that a young man would have worked his way up to the rank of Sergeant on hard work alone. He would have mentioned his late father, his rank and regiment, but of course it was a different year, it would be meaningless. He did wonder if there was a war on, though he wouldn't ask in front of Miss Sully. He'd be mindful to inquire about it in the future, when there were no ladies present.
