Miguel had been heading for the barn, his arms full of samples to take down to the lab for storage. He'd stashed his bag just inside the barn doors so that it wasn't just lying out in the park, and it was full of sample jars. Lyla was running through the locations of each sample with him, and filling in the relevant parts of the database as they spoke, when she suddenly stopped talking.
"Lyla? What's up?"
"I suggest that you put down all your samples as quickly as possible and move towards the barn, Miguel."
"What? Wh- oh shock..."
It didn't matter that he was Spider-man. It didn't matter that he could easily have jumped out of the way. It didn't matter one bit. There was a horse running towards him and it wasn't a holo and it wasn't on a vidscreen, it was a real horse and it was going to run into him and trample him and bite him over and over and over and he could not move. His old phobia that Gabri had teased him about for years (there were no horses in Nueva York, after all) was now terrifyingly relevant and Miguel's feet were rooted to the ground as he stared at the oncoming horse.
