He shook his head, and shrugged "They're right to worry anyway. I don't even know what would happen if something like a firework happened to catch me off guard." He knew how bad things had gotten when he was first on the island and so much more had happened since then.
He sighed and took a bite of his half of the cake, mostly just so it wasn't wasted. Some habits were hard to break and he never let food go to waste if he could help it. "Before...before the last two years, I still wondered," he started, watching the crowd again, eyes finding his kids, "if this was all some sort of dream. Some strange way of my brain trying to cope with slowly dying, frozen in the Arctic somewhere. But I don't think even I could imagine some of the things that have happened now."
