Something had changed, and the energy between them felt different, but Amos didn't have the words either t express it or to ask about it. He was sure he might not understand her answer, anyway. But maybe they would walk and it would clear again. Maybe she knew he was a liar and had changed her mind about wanting to have much to do with him.
"Oh? Okay, that will be nice," he shrugged, not understanding anything of a threat in what she was saying. He was sure it was simply small talk, and he should be glad to meet her mother. "You know, I'll bet I could give a flamingo a run for it's money. Although maybe it is like getting into a staring contest with a statue."
