"Oh, God, no. Hating popular things is just what incredibly boring people do because they think it makes them interesting," he agreed wholeheartedly. He hated the bores who sat around the dinner table reading out godawful poetry that was meant to be deep, and discussing politics with about as much depth of knowledge as a puddle.
"Ah, we're all a little fucked up. Well. The best kind of people are, anyway," he insisted, taking a sip of the strong coffee. Lacey brewed it well for a Canadian.
He listened curiously as she spoke, really listened, considering each idea, turning it over in his mind and examining it to see what he thought about it. He'd never been one to believe in something like karma, but the way she explained what it meant to her now did change things ever so slightly. "Hmm. I guess I never thought of it like that," he admitted quite seriously, and then he chuckled softly when she mentioned the guy in the club. "I didn't beat him, it was one punch, he clearly had a very empty, easily crushed skull."
She was surprised about the mention of Harry Potter, and he quite enjoyed that he could surprise her like that. "Not the whole set, no. I got as far as..." he thought about it for a moment, trying to think back to when Charlie was little and he would read it to him by the nightlight when he couldn't sleep. "The third one, I think it was. Yeah, the werewolf, and the rat that's not a real rat," he laughed at himself. "It was a while back, but yes, I've read some of it."
He was sure that watching a woman eat a cake wasn't meant to be an incredibly sensual experience, but watching Abigail really wound him up. Maybe it was the look of pleasure, or the way she licked the spoon clean, but he was sure it was getting hotter in the food court. He took a bite out of his own cake, attempting to look innocent, like he had no clue what she meant, but he could keep that up for all of two seconds. "Hell, I'm not asking you to marry me," he told her casually, trying to keep cool. Trying to pretend that he didn't think she was destined to be with him, and only him. "Although, I know I am prone to that kind of thing," he added, in a light, teasing tone.
