Abi looked at the bottle of rum like a long-lost parent and took it from him with gratitude, downing half a mouthful before passing it back. It cooled and warmed her at the same time, her skin already in a light sheen of sweat catching on the breeze like a perfect dichotomy. She could honestly stay in that spot forever, looking across at the ocean and up at the stars, away from tourists and problems, floating on bliss.
This space station seemed to be the best thing that had happened to her in years. If the crazy stories were true, she could travel the galaxy at random without needing flights or money or anything. In fact, the only thing she was missing was a person to share it with. She missed her friends, the only family she had; she wasn’t the most trusting person in the world, though Kat had won her over very quickly.
She missed her boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend now, she assumed.
“If you could go anywhere, in time and space, where would it be?” she asked suddenly. “If there were no limits?”
