Amos frowned slightly and started to give her a nod, although it wasn't quite what he had meant. He allowed her to explain, and he took a moment to process and assimilate the new information. He let out a breath he hadn't realised he was holding and felt his shoulders drop their tension.
"Ah. Okay," he paused, unsure about how much he should share, but she had answered all of his questions so far and she looked genuinely baffled by them.
"I should explain," he decided, finally moving to a more friendly closeness rather than an almost hostile distance. "This hound... Snuffles. I have never seen a real one, one that was ever wild. They are a fairly common sight in my world, but they were developed by the government, in a lab, much more machine than animal. Used as part intimidation, part crime prevention. Gets the scent of an outlaw and hunts them to the ends of the Earth to... dispose of them. The way things were going, I don't particularly want one getting a sniff of me at all."
