Peter sighed against the top of Claire's blonde head. What could he say to that? How could he explain all the reasons why he knew that exposing their kind only made things worse? He'd lived through the horror that had followed Nathan's press conference; seen his family betray him and turn on each other in their individual struggles to stay afloat in a world that was against them. But Claire... she was still so innocent. He knew her; even in his timeline, she only did what she was absolutely convinced was right. He knew she wouldn't have exposed them if she hadn't thought it was the right thing to do.
Peter lifted his hand to stroke down her blonde hair, the silky strands slipping between the rough pads of his fingers. "You don't need to apologize to me," he said, his tone of voice reflecting his troubled thoughts. "It's done. There's nothing we can do to change it here." Would he even change it if he could? He'd gone to extreme lengths to stop Nathan but Claire was different. He couldn't hurt a Claire from any timeline, even after she'd killed him in his own. There was a soft spot inside him that was reserved for his brave, headstrong niece.
