As Claire described how she'd jumped from the ferris wheel, Peter fell like he was falling too. Everything that he'd been through, everything he'd tried to change, had been for nothing. In the end, even in another future, the same thing was going to happen.
A look of horror on his grim face, Peter slowly backed away from Claire, his hands falling to his sides. He wasn't angry with her, he didn't think. He felt... numb.
"Why?" he asked, hardly trusting his low, gruff voice to stay true. "Why would you do that?" Didn't she understand just how horrific the future could be if everyone knew what they were - what they could do? Of course she didn't. She hadn't lived through the things he had. She didn't know, just like Nathan hadn't known when he'd stood up in front of that press conference.
