Peter's breath caught in his throat as the door to the apartment swung open, revealing Claire's small frame. She looked just like he remembered from years ago, with the same determined set to her mouth, even though her eyes showed that she was as nervous as him.
When she smiled, Peter couldn't help relaxing a little. Part of him had still been convinced that she had it in for him and was only playing nice to coax him up here but he could tell that her smile was genuine. His own lips pulled up at the right side in his unique little lopsided smile. It was so good to see her again. Of all the people he'd lost over the last few years, it had been losing Claire and Nathan that had hurt the most. Losing Nathan had nearly broken him; losing Claire really had broken him. But they were here now and Claire had said the future had been changed. By all rights, he should be dead but he wasn't and now he had the chance to make it up to his niece.
