Shannon closed her eyes and took a deep breath to attempt to ready herself for what she was about to see. Her heart ached in a way that she was more than sure that it would never heal. She wasn't sure she wanted it too.
She held that breath in as she crossed the threshold. Her eyes cutting up at the mirror, when she opened them, that she knew hung there. As if seeing him in it rather than any other way would lessen the blow. It didn't.
Her hand came up to cover her mouth. No matter how thick the dam had been it broke, and large tears poured from her eyes. "Oh, you idiot. Why didn't you listen?" She whispered to the motionless man that lay in the bed. No malice in her tone.
