"No fighting, you three." Izzy kidded her grandmother's stomach with a smile on her face, trusting her grandmother that the babies were okay.
Soookie instinctively offered a hand to help her mother up, though a part of wondered if she should have let her mother do it alone to gain a better idea of how well her mother was able to move unassisted. Or to see if Izzy could have helped her on her own. As her mother tended to Vivian, she moved closer to Izzy.
"I wish I had books to read to them." Izzy said, indicating her younger sisters. "Or paper so I could write my own books."
"I'll see what I can do." Sookie's mind instantly went to medical books, if they'd even have them around there. "I might be able to trade favours for books or for some chalk that you could write on the walls with and a cloth to wipe it off." She wanted to encourage Izzy to play the role of caretaker for the younger ones. It was a role she'd have to take on. Once the babies were born, she suspected her mother might get put to work too. She looked over at her mom. "How's Vi?"
