"I shouldn't be, no." Her tone said it all: weary, resigned and a little sad. This certainly wasn't the life she'd expected just a year ago. All the children from the future had pointed to a life that was crazy yet happy and secure, and that life had been ripped away from all of them. There was no guarantee of anything close to a happy ending.
"Be that as it may, I have to do my share while I still can." She told her daughter. "You have your job to do in the factory, I have mine here in the dorms. I don't want you doing more than you have to do in that place." They needed to get out but she couldn't see how they'd manage it anytime soon.
