"The laundry? Mom, you shouldn't be working." Sookie wanted her mother off her feet and resting as much as she could. The idea of her cleaning laundry, especially when illness spread fast and there was no access to proper medical care, was very worrying. If she were to become ill, or worse, go into early labour - there'd be little they could do to help. They might even lose her.
"I can try to get some extra shifts." She offered. "Or see if I can get more higher paying shifts." That meant even more dangerous work, or with one of the lecherous supervisors that liked to grab her when her father wasn't around. She could put up with it, if it would help the family. "Maybe you can teach me a few phrases that I can use."
