Sookie stopped before she made her way to the bunk beds, allowing herself a coughing fit, to scrub her hands under a small sink and then wipe at her eyes. The filth she worked in felt thick and heavy on any spot of skin that was exposed, made her lungs feel like they were burning and her eyes sting. She couldn't let her mother see tears, not when being pregnant must make this place so much worse. By the time she reached her mother, she had some semblance of self-control.
"It was good." There had been an accident that had caused another worker pain, maybe even broken bones and yet she no longer felt disturbed by such events. Any day that didn't leave someone without a limb was a good one. "They gave us extra rations at lunch." She'd adapted to eating whatever she was fed easily, having eaten strange delicacies in the B5 universe. No doubt the extra food was because of the heavy lifting she'd had to do that day. Her mother didn't need to know that part. "How was your day?"
