"Less greasy," Katherine whispered. She didn't care whether her father would hear it or not. She didn't mind long hair and frankly, she loved the idea of braiding it. Holly had always braided hers when she had been young. It had made her feel special as it was one of the few treatments her brothers did not receive. For her braiding each other's hair was a display of affection.
When they reached the opening, her father had already walked ahead to the huge creature that loomed in the middle of the park. The wyvern stood as tall as a small elephant. Black scales protected its body and olive thorny sails spread from its back. It was the same shade the tips of its wings took. It looked up and cocked its head when they approached.
