On a more solemn note... Those words sobered her up immediately. They created a tension in her as to what might follow. The tension slowly turned into annoyance. Of course, her father tried to drag her onto his side. The annoyance even overshadowed the warmth she might have felt for her mother's words of protection.
"He won't," she said with a solemn shake of her head. "It wasn't him. Rhysand shouldn't be blamed for it. At all. Even if it happens again, it's not his fault. He did not do it. He did not choose to act like that." All the frustration she felt for her father's intolerance now hit her mother. "You know how this island is. You know how it sometimes changes us. But Dad is so blind in his anger and grudge that he doesn't see that he is not only hurting the man I love but also me as well. And now Thor is gone too because the only thing he had was me and I couldn't be enough. He needed his brother when he lost his wife. But Dad was too caught up in his childhood grudges and he can't get fucking over himself. Thor was there for me when he wasn't! He was my family when Dad wanted nothing to do with me!" Tears wallowed in her eyes now. The loss was still a raw wound. "And what about Christmas? A joyful family meal seems impossible because Dad's gonna ruin it with his jabs. Lucy never had something like this. She never had us. She never had grandparents. But I can't give her a happy family because there is none." It was good to get it off her chest even though the rant was misplaced. She sucked in a deep breath. "Sorry. I shouldn't... this is all still so new for you. It's just... I want to claw his eyes out with frustration sometimes. He's so bull-headed in his ways."
