She did not know what about her mother's question caught her so off guard. She had not expected her to ask about 'juicier questions'. Holly wouldn't have. She was a lady clothed in manners through and through. She had expected her mother to be like that. But she wasn't. This was a woman she did not know and who did not know her.
"I don't know. They are your questions. I already know him very well," she said quietly. A polite smile was matched to the polite words.
So while Rhysand told his tale, Katherine occupied herself with Myrkvan who she finally convinced to jump up next to her on the couch. She needed the black wolfdog to keep her emotions in check. Calm her down so she could go back to the playful way. But maybe it was too early for that. She couldn't help but miss Holly all of a sudden. And with the feeling of loss came the feeling of guilt. It was nothing she could ever admit to her mother.
