The perfect question! And yet one that Rhysand had somewhat hoped to avoid. Discussing his 'career' had always been a tricky one back home and here he could have realistically said anything he wanted. Did he tell this woman the truth and reveal to her the great secrets of the vast lands, larger than any other Court in all of Prythian? Or did he continue his charade, tell her of the Hewn City and depravity therein that he kept in check with a hard hand--among other things, once upon a moon?
Rhysand decided that in this place--and in space, no less--the risk was no greater than any threat they had faced back home. Surely, they would never raid his beautiful city the way the King had.
"I preside over the Night Court, which is one of three solar courts and one of the total seven courts of Prythian. Mine is two-fold and holds the most land of all seven being filled with frigid mountains, a city within them, and a shore with a city upon that. First, there is the Hewn City, the city that has been carved from the mountains itself. The people that live there are foolish, hateful creatures who do not like the way I choose to rule but are too fearful of my power to leave." At this Rhysand shifted to lean on the other elbow, brilliant eyes staring at Shannon as if they alone could impart the imagery of his court.
"They are the people of nightmares; heartless, cruel, and treacherous. They believe in the ancient rulings and use of power that my father utilized--they disagree with my current, more compassionate methods. That said...they truly know nothing of me or what lies beyond their stony walls. They prefer their violence, lust, and deceit over kinder company.
"The people the second city, Velaris, lived safely in secret for five thousand years due to the diligence of my ancestors and my own sacrifices. I would do anything for them; they are my dreamers and carry on light, goodness, and joy. They are creative, trustworthy, and filled with hearts of gold. Stark contrast to the wretched people in their nightmare realm.
"Save for my Courts, I meet with other High Lords of Court and we conduct typical, if not boring, business. They don't usually enjoy meeting with me because they believe I am as deprave as the rumors they hear out of the Hewn City." He laughed at this. "It's my favorite facade."
