Who: Lucy and Shannon
What: Waking up.
Where: Space Station.
Rating/Warnings: None, will update if needed.

Lucy woke up in a panic. Floating was a sign that something had gone very wrong in her mind. She was convinced that the man had found a way back from the dead and this was another one of his tricks. She looked all around as her eyes adjusted to the strange red light, hoping for a weapon or at least some supplies. She had no such luck, but someone else was there. A woman. She eyed her suspiciously. She hadn't seen her on the island before. It could be another victim of the man or a part of his trick. Lucy wouldn't wait to find out. "Hey." She yelled. "Wake up."

Shannon groaned as she was jolted from her sleep. What in seven hells? Forcing her mind to take it all in just a little faster, she gripped onto a nearby wall. Panic set in. Where was Kat? Surely He did not set them apart?! "Have you seen a little girl, head full of ink black hair, and eyes that cannot decide whether they're blue or green? She's... She's probably tall for her age, but is only three. Um... I put her down for bed so, so she would be in her pyjamas. Purple, with a wolf pup on the front."

She was in full on mother mode, if Loki took her without waking her... she'd box his ears when they got back. If she got back.

Lucy watched the woman with suspicion. A mother searching for her child was the kind of ruse the man would use to elicit sympathy and catch her off guard. There was some concern mixed in too. If there was a child, she wanted to find her. She held onto the wall to steady herself and manage a face to face conversation without floating around too much.

"No, I haven't seen anyone else but you. I'm not from here." She answered truthfully, but without revealing too many details about herself. "Which way is your daughter's bedroom? Did you bring me here to help you look?" It was an odd choice. Surely there were other islanders better at that than her.

"I'm not from here. I.. I come from an island. I was..." She paused in the middle of looking under the bed, her fingers gripping onto its frame as she forced her body down. "I was born there. So were my parents, and their parents."

Shannon pulled herself down hard, on the bed, and took a deep breath. Using that moment to calm her nerves, as she held herself in place. To count to ten, and allow her that moment of silent anger. Then forced it away, in favor of something more constructive. "I realize that sounds crazy."

"That doesn't sound crazy. I was born on an island too, as were my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, several generations actually." Lucy said without giving any more details. She could be from a 'normal' island from one of the many universes out there. She wouldn't say too much until she knew what was going on.

"How long have you been here?" She asked, still wondering if this woman had brought her here. "Was your daughter with you when you arrived?"

Shannon opened her eyes and took in the young woman when she described her own island. Not that she would know any of the Islanders if one reached out and bit her... but she had hoped she'd recognize a passing face. She didn't.

"I don't know. I don't remember falling asleep, but I had been there last I remember. And my daughter was there. When I woke up... Well." She waved a hand at the room they shared. "My name is Shannon, Shannon Rogers."

"Your daughter could still be there, in her bed. I'm sorry." Lucy said, because it wasn't a good thing to her. In her experience, no one was ever safe, not even in their own beds, especially not children without their parents.

"Rogers is a common name where I'm from. Almost as common as Sully." Lucy commented, watching for any signs of a reaction. "I'm Lucy. I'd say nice to meet you, but under the circumstances, that doesn't seem right."

Shannon could only nod slowly as she was faced with that truth. She closed her eyes again, she would not panic in front of a stranger. She didn't panic in front of Loki on a good day. And she trusted him. She simply breathed deep breaths and again counted. "She is probably with her father, she'll be fine. He won't let any harm come to her."

Her eyes opened. "I... I don't know if it's common or not. I don't like being around the majority of the people of the island." No, they had left her when she needed them most, and as far as she was concerned they could go stuff themselves.

Lucy watched the woman. She had such faith in the dad, as if he couldn't have been separated from the daughter too. She had to wonder where that came from. She knew even the people she trusted, the ones that shared her bond, weren't invincible. "He sounds like a good dad."

Lucy gave a nod as if she understood. It seemed odd though. She'd been raised by the people of the island after her parents passed. It made her think most parents would want to fit in, even with people they didn't like, if for no other reason than to make things easier for their children and ensure their children would be cared for if they were gone. "Perhaps we should look around and see if we can find a way out of this room, before whoever brought us here returns." She suggested.

"He's getting there. But he will protect her with everything he has." Her own words brought her sanity. Brought her peace of mind. And functionality. Loki would protect their daughter because she was his daughter, if nothing else.

Shannon had enough. She let go of the bed, and tested the whether she could move easily from the bed. The answer was no. Nothing would be easy without gravity. So she pushed away from the bed and aimed for the door. "If He brought us here, there's no hiding anyway." She didn't like to think of the entity, to think about him was to draw his attention. When she reached the door, she grabbed the frame around it and held herself there. Looking for a way to open it.

Everything one had often wasn't enough, but Lucy kept quiet. She eyed the door and the area around it, before making her way over. "If he brought us here? He who?" She asked, trying to keep the suspicion out of her voice.

She began moving her fingers over what appeared to be a control panel. It lit up at her touch with flashing buttons, but nothing that looked like a picture of a door or the word open. That would have been too easy. "I'm not having much luck here, what about you?"

"I don't know his name, I don't know that anyone before me did either. All I know is he's been tormenting the place longer than I've been alive. He doesn't talk about it, but probably as long as Loki has been there." Shannon paused. While she didn't know many islanders, she knew her lover, and father of her child, was not well liked among them. Mostly because he enjoyed tormenting them. Had she given too much away?

She shook it off. One problem at a time. She looked on the opposite side of the door. There was another panel there, but she waved her hand in front of it. Not sure what struck the notion to do so, but whatever it was the door opened.

"He sounds like a monster." Lucy said, being careful not to show any emotion. She couldn't deny that it did sound like the same man, which led her to believe that he could still be alive and possibly using Shannon to manipulate her. Hearing her grandfather's name used only added to her paranoia. "I take it Loki is either long lived or elderly?" She asked, continuing her charade. No need to out herself as his descendant if the man didn't already know it.

Shannon's innocent discovery of how to open the door also seemed suspicious. Nevertheless, she gave a smile. "You did it!" She peeked through the door opening. No obvious threats from what she could see without getting closer to the door. "So, which one of us goes first?"

"He is. I try to stay off his radar, but even I can't escape his notice all the time." Especially once she started seeing Loki. She'd known that would be a draw. But she couldn't say it wasn't worth it. Most of the time. "Long-lived. He wasn't elderly." She wanted to chuckle at the notion. But she didn't, instead she focused on their predicament.

Shannon looked her over from head to toe. "I'll go first. If Kat isn't here, there's nothing for me to lose." Her daughter had made her life have meaning, when before it had simply been counting down the minutes. And with that she launched herself out the door.

"Wait, what?" Lucy blurted out as Shannon went through the doors. First, a mention of a long-lived Loki and now a Kat. She could ignore the mention of her grandfather to a degree. She barely knew him. Her mother was a different story. They had just been getting to know each other. As much as she liked to think she didn't need anyone outside the bond she shared with Gen and Rach, she had enjoyed meeting her mother and didn't want to lose her now.

Lucy put her hand on the side of the door, pulling herself through the doorway and then floated after Shannon. "Kat who?"

Shannon couldn't help but look at the girl like she had grown a second head. She clung to one of the walls halting her momentum. "Katherine. I hadn't said, but that's my daughter's name." She thought that would have been obvious. Sure it had been a hot minute since she had said anything about her little girl, but surely two and two could be put together.

"What's her last name?" Lucy asked quickly, barely waiting for Shannon to finish speaking and not giving a care as to how she came across. "Or perhaps she doesn't have one? Is she cold, like me?" She reached out and very lightly touched the other woman's hand, just enough for her to feel the chill.

It was Shannon's turn to go all suspicious. "We haven't decided, but the subject hasn't really come up." Why all the sudden questions? She pulled back when the girl touched her, like she had been burned, but not. "Okay, who are you?"

"The subject of her name didn't come up in three years?" Lucy asked. Not having a last name was a valid choice in her mind. After all, she didn't have one and never needed one. Not making the choice or even thinking about your own child's name was a different matter. "Or she hasn't been yours the entire time? Did you adopt her?" She paused. "I told you. I'm Lucy."

"Of course she's been mine the entire time. I gave birth to her. She came out of my womb." She didn't want to go into the parts this girl had questioned her about. It wasn't her business that she and Loki had been lovers. "Alright Lucy if you can't give me a last name I think the judgment that my daughter doesn't have one yet should be stuffed. Don't you?"

"I never made any judgments about your daughter not having a last name. Don't put that lie in my mouth. As I told you, I'm just Lucy." Lucy pointed out, hiding any confusion or hurt at Shannon's false accusation. She knew that Shannon's paranoia could be part of an act to catch her off guard. "I was surprised that in three years, you haven't made a decision about her having one or not. If you've chosen not to give her one, I think that's a wise choice. I like not having a last name."

She paused. "And I don't know why you'd say of course. I've never met you before and they are all kinds of ways to create a family. I was raised by people other than my biological parents. I was their family, even if I didn't come out of their womb and wasn't with them until I was older."

Shannon was far too used to the judgment and sneers of others. "You'll have to forgive me. In my time the people weren't so kind. And I have a short temper. I lived away from them because they had failed me when I needed them most. For stupid reasons that I don't want to go into."

She paused and made way down the hall that they had entered. "I definitely wouldn't trust her to go to anyone other than her Father. And she doesn't have a last name because that will be her choice when she's old enough. Her father and I don't share one. He lives with us, but I thought it was a stupid tradition, and I'm only mortal." She couldn't tie Loki to her, for her only to die in a blink of his eye.

"Where I'm from is different. We have a bond. Not with everyone, but some of us have it. And even the ones who don't have the bond, have to depend on each other to survive. Or at least we all did. It changed. Things were better. We were starting to do more than just survive." Even with the cold and the dark, Lucy was convinced her mother had done the right thing. The island was better without the man. "But now, I'm here."

"I didn't want to make the choice. Picking one name feels like I would be rejecting the other names." Lucy knew the Hemmingways had understood. She hoped Katherine and Rhysand would too. "And he isn't mortal? It must make things hard. Or at least the immortals I've known, have thought of the rest of us as young. Child like." She supposed Loki saw her and her mother that way too. Maybe not Thor, but she barely knew him. And the man saw them all as toys.

"It sounds nice. Not having to worry about someone stabbing you in the back. I wish my island had been like that." It sounded nice, having more than one person watch your back. But Shannon didn't trust it. Not any more than she trusted this place.

"I don't mind one way or another. I just don't want to put a name on her she doesn't want. Her first name had come to me in a dream, and has seemed to suit her." She remembered it all like it was yesterday. Even the pain. "No. He's very hard to kill." Shannon had tried to hide the smile that tugged at her lips. "I don't think he's seen me as childlike since we met."

"It wasn't all good. We still had to worry about other things. But yeah, it was nice." Lucy said with a hint of a smile. "Is it wrong that I'm hoping they're here somewhere and we haven't been separated?" She mentally scolded herself. What was she doing? Looking for grandmotherly advice? This could still be a ruse.

"It is a nice name. It's my mother's name." Lucy mentioned. Was that too much? She need Gen and Rachel's voices through the bond to let her know if what she was doing was wise. "She's hard to kill too. And my grandfather." But they had both died in her time, or if Loki had been alive in the dark future, he'd stayed away from her. "He respects you. That can be hard to come by from the strongest ones."

"If there are people you like enough to want them with you, there is no harm in wanting them here." Some part of her wanted Loki there. But she longed for her daughter. But she couldn't break down about it until she was alone.

"Really? It isn't common to the island. But from what I understand it is in other worlds." But she knew the name was beautiful, that was why it resonated with her. But what she said after that made her think. She went quiet as she traveled down the corridor.

"The harm comes if it isn't safe for them here." Lucy said quietly. There were too many unknowns. Where was she and when? If this was her own grandmother, could she change things and impact her mother or herself? More people would mean more risks.

"It was the name of a great actress too." She remembered watching classic movies with Papa Hemingway before the island lost power. "Katharine Hepburn." She followed Shannon for a moment and then stopped, bracing her hand against the wall so she could stop and look at a tunnel. "There's water in the tunnel. There might be mers here."

And they had no idea if they were safe. There was no way to know. She understood where she came from, really she did. She moved further down the hall. But if they were from the same Island... "Is this really any worse than back there?" So far she had seen no evidence of the Man. But that didn't mean he wasn't there.

Shannon smiled. "Oh, I know. Perhaps one of her movies had prompted the dream. I don't know. It could have been a crazy pregnancy dream." She followed Lucy's gaze to the water tunnel. "Only way to find out is to follow the tube. Do you want to use the lack of gravity to do it, or do you want to go the long way?"

"I guess it depends on where your back there was like." Lucy commented. "Though known dangers are usually better than the unknown ones." The man's surprises had been the worst and now that he was dead, those were supposed to be done with.

"The long way is a relative term." Lucy teleported herself down to the end of the hallway, curious as to how the woman would react. She wasn't sure if her mother teleported at that young of an age - but if Shannon knew Loki, she would have known he could do it. She peeked around the corner to see what lay ahead. "There's no obvious traps or people ahead."

"I guess I'm too used to the dangers the island possesses. I'd almost prefer them to this." She could definitely say she preferred her feet on the ground.

Shannon was a little shocked, but not too. She had seen it done, and had it done, more than a few times. "You don't have to stay with me if you can teleport. I'll be fine." She didn't want to hold the girl up if she could move faster. "If you can see to do it follow the water, I'll slowly do the same."

Lucy had learned a few things. Shannon wasn't overly surprised but she couldn't do it herself. She knew she had a wide variety in ancestry, the fae from her father and everything else from her mother. What could her possible grandmother do? It was interesting.

"We might be safer together. Two sets of eyes and all that." She wanted to solve this puzzle if she could.

Shannon had to wonder if the girl simply wanted to keep her eyes on her. Regardless they were going in the same direction, if Lucy didn't want to split up they wouldn't split up.

"Alright, that makes sense." Relenting. She couldn't believe she was relenting with a stranger.

Lucy nodded and floated along for a moment. "So, tell me more about your island. It doesn't sound like the best place. Did you ever think about leaving it?" "That must have sucked. It does explain why you stayed with people you couldn't trust." Lucy commented. It was sounding more and more like her island. No way to leave other than being sent somewhere else, or to some other time, by the man. She maneuvered herself slowly, occasionally touching a few buttons she passed by, to see if anything would happen.

The respect of Loki? The question was so close to bubbling out of her lips, but Lucy managed to keep it inside. She knew Shannon couldn't mean the respect of the man. Even if she wasn't really her grandmother, she didn't seem like the type to want to be respected by that monster.

She looked up the stairs. "It's worth a shot." She said. "This place must have had gravity at some point. Stairs would be useless without it."

Shannon knew she had to be curious. But there was only so much she would share at this point. She didn't have to remind herself that she didn't know this girl. She didn't think she was some construct of the Man, there was nothing to gain from attacking her. But she was still a stranger in a strange place.

"They will be easier to maneuver too. More handholds. The question is, do we go up or down?" Her instinct told her up. She didn't know why, but she did trust her gut.
