The hour was late, not that anyone could tell the difference except for the time on the clock, and sleep eluded Izzy.
Part of it was due to the joys of pregnancy. She hadn't been able to get comfortable when she'd gone to bed, then nature had called and she'd gone to the bathroom. No sooner had she gotten back into bed than her stomach started growling. Then she'd realized she'd already eaten all her finger food she kept on the nightstand, which meant she'd had to get up again.
So now she sat at the kitchen table, nibbling on carrot sticks with a steaming mug of decaf tea in front of her, despite knowing it would just make her have to go to the bathroom again. She stared out the window at the frozen landscape, pondering what the future held. It had been a month since they'd blown up the Spire and in that time the stars had never moved and there hadn't been a hint of the sun on the horizon. Would this be their new reality? What kind of world would her children grow up in?
A sound roused her from her woolgathering and she looked up.
