He stood quietly before her,'looking down at her, and his expression seemed unreadable. Admittedly, he had expected she would have crossed this bridge sooner. Admittedly, he had never been sure the outcome or what he would say in response. So now, here they were, and he felt conflicted.
The right thing to say was to same thing in return. It was what his heart felt, too. But his pride and attempt to cling to that dark visage stood in the way.
On the one hand, they were alone and the only person to hear him would be Heather. She was the only person that needed to. On the other hand, saying it would open the flood gates to light and a life he had sworn off.
