The threat came out of the blue. Thomas' head snapped towards the man. Comprehension took a moment to conquer his mind and it did, it was not pleasant. He had dealt with such an abuse once before. A mask of hardness steeled the lines of his face. It was a reflex. Deny, charm and wiggle yourself out of it. Growl if you had to. Don't give your court away.
"You-" he started and then stopped himself. There was no court to protect. In fact, there was nothing to protect. His death would hardly be a loss to most and he had nothing except for a a niece and sister-in-law he had met a few days ago and one niece he hasn't even met yet. Was there anything he could even offer to them?
The hard lines softened. Tired eyes glanced at the man's weapon. He did not dare to look him in the eye and see the pain he caused. Nonetheless, instinct forbid him drop his own weapon. He had never been one to surrender without a fight. "And are you?"
