"So many from earth? It must be big. A technomage?" Cora repeated the strange word slowly. "Is that some type of witch?" It wasn't meant as insult. Many witches were good. Even the sea witch helped her people in her way.
"You talk through that? It looks like something from the land without colour. But it has colour." Cora stared at the phone, as if expecting it to spring to life like one of Frankenstein's creations. "What's a text message? And why would you want to browse any kind of net? It's too easy to get trapped in them. You could end up on a pirate ship!" Modern technology had little, if any role in most of the fairy tale worlds that she moved through. She looked up at Juliet's face again, with wide eyes. "People went all the way to the moon! That must have taken a mighty portal. Were there any wolves there? The moon is so important to them."
Cora nodded, reminding herself that this mermaid wasn't raised in the water. "I can show you. There are many ways to use a conch. You can blow on it to call the other mers or sea creatures. Or to talk to people. Some conch shells can be used to hear the ocean if you hold it to the ear. And with the best ones, the ocean can hear you."
