His head was pounding. He didn't even want to open his eyes because he was afraid the light would make his headache worse. James hadn't felt pain like that in a very long time. Not since the last time he was wiped. He bought his hands up to his face, covering it for a moment. It only took a second before his eyes shot open. Hands. Plural. Two. The last time he remembered he'd only had the one. He sat up and stared down at his newly replaced arm. It was the same silver as before, but this time minus the bright red star at his shoulder. He flexed his fingers a few times and ran his right hand down his left arm. It even still had the same sensation that Hope had given it. Like a real arm.

While staring at his arm and trying to figure out when it had been returned to him, he failed to notice that he was completely naked. He was also in an unfamiliar bed. A movement out of the corner of his eye made him realize that he also wasn't alone. He took a slow, deep breath and then reached out to touch the shoulder of the person in the bed next to him. He silently prayed that it was Laura but he knew deep down that it wasn't. He didn't say anything, just waited for the other person to wake up.

The instant Kerry woke up, she felt a chill run down the length of her spine. Her slender fingers balled into fists, crushing her nails into her palms to keep a hold of her emotions. As much as she wanted to believe that she was wrong, she was naked in bed with a stranger and no memory of how she got there. With everything her step-father, step-brother and even Jason had put her through, it was hard for her to not assume the worst. The only alternative to enter her mind is only slightly better - that she had been drugged, along with the stranger, by someone like David Pilcher. But to what end? Was there someone on the island trying to create another Wayward Pines?

She shifted in the bed, moving away from the stranger. "Who are you? Did you do something to me?"

James shifted away from her a little as well, more to try to make her comfortable than anything else. He made sure that his lower half stayed covered. James shook his head in answer to her question.

"No. I didn't. It's....the island quite often does things to people. Makes them forget who they are." Even as he said it, he knew it sounded like a ridiculous excuse.

	Kerry didn't think she could ever forget that. She carried her past with her, even on the island. She'd always be that girl from Iowa, no matter what she tried to be in Wayward Pines - the past had caught up to her there. She'd always be her. "I know who I am." Kerry said. James let out a little laugh at her question, then cleared his throat. "Sorry, that's just....a complicated question for me." He had quite a bit of memory loss after all. James looked around and found his phone sitting on a table across the room. He walked over and picked it up, not caring that he was naked. He wasn't modest. "According to my phone, it's December. The last I remember it was November."

	"December of what year?" Kerry asked, not surprised by the time loss. To her, it was a natural question. She'd lost over two thousand years in stasis. And that was without a magic island. She looked around the room, trying to take in as many details as she could. "I don't feel sick like I was in stasis. And there are no pods here." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Still 2016." He answered. It wasn't all that strange a question to him. He looked around the room and then back at the young woman sitting on the bed. What had the island done to them? "I'm James." "I'm Kerry." Kerry introduced herself, glad he'd done the same. She'd kept herself isolated since her arrival on the island and never scrolled through the list of names out of the concern that she'd find someone from her past. She didn't know anyone other than those she'd met on her first day.

"If we weren't in stasis, then maybe we were sent to a different time." She suggested. "I'm guessing we're still on the island if your phone works. Do you recognize this place?"

"We weren't necessarily sent to a different time." He cleared his throat. "There have been people here that were led to believe they were someone else. Not their actual selves." He started looking around for clothes. "I don't recognize it, but I haven't seen the inside of a lot of the buildings here." Maybe he'd recognize the outside. James looked at his left arm and then just went back to searching for clothing. She didn't need to know about that just yet.

"Why?" Kerry frowned. That sounded almost like what had been done to many of the people of Wayward Pines. This situation might not have been created by threats and public and executions any time their past lives were mentioned. Maybe it had been drugs instead. It still felt like a violation. "Is the island trying to create some kind of new society? New pairings?"

She couldn't ignore the fact they were both naked. And in Wayward Pines, forced relationships had happened with the intention to repopulate the earth, the so-called greater good. She pulled the sheet tighter around herself and adverted her gaze from him. "I haven't seen much other than a house, the apartments and a few shops. Nothing that looked like this."

	"Because someone is a sadistic bastard." He continued to search for clothes. "I already have a partner, I don't know why it would do this." He shook his head and stopped searching to look at her. "There are three palaces on the island, as well as a prison and some other buildings. The structure of the room leads me to believe this is one of the palaces." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

In other circumstances, that would be amazing. There had been a time once when Kerry had wanted to travel and see castles, and even prisons. Everything she'd been denied in her small town life. But once she had awoken in the future, the town of Wayward Pines had been the only place on earth to survive the abbies. There'd been no more castles.

Under these circumstances, she felt guilty. "I'm sorry. To you and your partner." It hadn't been intentional. So much had happened that hadn't been her intention. It didn't matter to her, not if she had still been the one to cause suffering. "If we can find a exit, we should be able to see the spire, right? That could lead us back to the city."

"You don't have to apologize. Neither of us had any control over our actions." He said it with complete confidence, though there was a voice in the back of his mind saying that Laura wouldn't necessarily believe it.

"We just need a window." Though this room didn't seem to have one. "I'll go check. Would you look for our clothes?" He really had no problem with walking around naked.

	"Yeah, I can do that." Kerry started wrapping the sheet around herself, using it to clothe herself as best she could. "Is there anything else you might have had with you that I should look for?" 	"I'm not sure. It would depend on when I was taken in the first place." He sighed softly. Had be been with the twins, he certainly would have been unarmed. "I'll be right back." 	James shook his head. "No guns, but there are a couple of battle axes hanging on the wall." That would be better than nothing. "I think we're going to have to venture into another room to find clothes, though." Getting down a mountain and through the forest wouldn't be very easy if they were naked. 	"Definitely shoes." James nodded. He left the room and went the opposite direction from Kerry. After a few minutes, he poked his head out of the room. "I found some in here." 	Kerry walked into the room and looked over the clothes, picking some up. "These aren't mine, but this should fit me." Her eyes travelled down to the boots. "Not quite jackboots, but they'll do too." James nodded as he looked through the clothes. "They should fit at least enough to get me home." He checked out the boots and nodded again. "These will do." As he started to get dressed, something was gnawing at the back of his mind. He stopped halfway through getting his pants on. "Given what's most likely happened that we don't remember.....you should know that I'm sterile." He cleared his throat.

Kerry shed her sheet and began to get dressed. His words were an ugly reminder that once again she may have had sex, against her will. An island mind trick wasn't as violent as what had happened in the past - but it still made her feel used and at the same time, as if she'd used him. She yanked the rest of the clothes on quickly.

"I can't have children either." She muttered quietly. It had broken her heart when Dr. Yedlin had first told her, and even worse when she had to break the news to Jason. It may have been for the best when she learned who Jason really was, but it didn't make her feel any better. She had been well trained to want motherhood, to do her duty to keep humanity alive.

"I, um, Before I came to the island, I was injected with many viruses. The doctors here said I wan't infected anymore when I came here. And I'm not sick. No one else has gotten sick either." Kerry said slowly. "But I've mostly kept to my apartment. I haven't spent any prolonged time with anyone else. You might want to get checked out when we get back to the city, just to be safe."

"I'm sorry." James said softly at her first statement. He was perfectly happy helping to raise the twins, but he knew that some people wanted children of their own. He finished dressing as she spoke and nodded.

"I'm not sure I can get sick but I'll get checked anyway." He offered her a small smile. He'd have to do that before going home. He certainly didn't want to get the twins sick.

Kerry nodded, though a part of her suspected the universe would be better without her having another child. "I'm sorry for you too."

Kerry found that fascinating. Jason would have labelled them both defective because of their inability to have children, perhaps because of his arm as well. And yet this man had an advantage that not even that abbies had. "You're not sure if you can get sick? Are you.." Her voice trailed off for a moment. Aberration could come off like an insult and he didn't look like any abbie she knew. None of the island residents did. "Are you not human?"
