Who: Heather and Kylo Ren
Where: Starting at the gangplank
What: Adventure!
When: After this
Rating: TBD
Open: nah
Status: On going.

Even from the beach the ship was enormous. She was sure Kylo had seen much much bigger. But she hadn't. She stood in awe. Just admiring the grandioseness of it. And how far that plank had to stretch to reach the top deck.

Heather had half wanted to wear something period related. Something that was fitting to the Titanic and her era. But instead she'd gone with blue jeans and a t shirt. Because she had also wanted to crawl through the guts of the ship. To explore what made her tick.

"Isn't she pretty?" She half whispered to the man beside her. She was in love.

Kylo Ren, on the other hand, was un-amused by the entire thing. It was a ship, one that sailed through seas and not space, and seemed absolutely useless. Another plot in the long chain of hardship on the island, no doubt. He stood beside Heather with his arms crossed loosely, light saber hanging from his hip as he wore a dark blue t-shirt and a pair of black slacks, his heavy boots. She wanted to crawl through a ship and while he was unsure what the insides of this monster relic might hold he knew his robes would do no good in those compartments.

"It's acceptable for a historic artifact," Kylo commented.

"Well, considering what she really looks like today..." Heather brought out her tablet and flipped through a few photographs. "And what we have in front of us... Did you know it was lost, for more than seventy years?" She recalled the day they found the ship. She'd only been five years old, but it had been a big deal. She slipped her tablet back into the back of her jeans.

She knew it wasn't a big deal to him. He lived through so much more momentous things than she had... She gave him a little bit of a sheepish smile. "It shouldn't be a big deal. I mean, an unsinkable ship that sank because it was put in the hands of some monumentally stupid people, who were greedy, and impatient. And it cost the lives of a bunch of people. But I can't help but be in awe of it." She wasn't quite in as much awe of it as she was of him of course. She still occasionally pinched herself.

Heather turned her gaze back to the gangplank. The long. Long stretch of wood, and rope and nails. Over water.

Leaning over slightly with a tilt down of his head, Kylo looked upon the tablet with that sort of bored expression he was so well known for. A brow raised as he looked over the images she revealed to him and he gave a small hum. "It certainly looks better this way," he commented with a small smirk.

"Usually that is how it goes. Greed, impatient, foolish...Well. Lets go." And he started up.

"There's a bacteria that's not been found growing on any of the other wrecks, that is destroying the ship, as it sits." After he started up, she placed both hands on the railing and started her way up. Steady as she goes. Closing her eyes every now and then, and letting her feet guide her. Or simply watching his back. Trying not to hyperventilate.

"I ever tell you about this recurring nightmare I had when I was a kid? I would dream that my Mom would come back, and that she would take me and my Dad for a drive.. And she'd drive us off of a bridge. But that wasn't the scary part. The scary part was when the car hit the water. It sank like a stone." The anxiety was clear in her voice. She wasn't afraid of water. Wasn't afraid of ships. And would not let this fear conquer her.

"Fascinating," Kylo said. He wasn't really interested so much as he liked to listen to Heather. She spout random information and found it, somehow, rather endearing. But as she continued to talk he stopped walking and moved back to fetch her, reaching to take one of her hands.

"You have not told me," he commented. "I'm sorry to hear that. Know that you are fine. I will not let harm befall you."

Her fingers squeezed his in thanks when he came back for her. Heather didn't like to seem needy, but he was so very strong. She couldn't help but feel stronger beside him. She wasn't silly enough to think she could take on the world. All the fear didn't leak out of her, but her knees did feel a lot less like jelly.

"I always woke up before there was no more air." But the tension was so great that she remembered them to this day. "I know, I do. I know I can swim like a fish too, but.." She nodded toward the water below them. It didn't make it any easier. But he did.

Drawing Heather up, Kylo moved in such a way that she bypassed him and was first to move up the plank. He remained close behind and vigilant for any wobbly or worry she might have.

"There is never anything comforting when you have a fear. It simply is at it is. Rationale does not apply to anxiety. Fortunately, we are almost there."

She felt very protected when he swapped them. She switched hands, so she could hold onto his, and onto the railing. She felt even more solid that way. Heather took one deep breath after another, and continued forward.

"Well, I could try and conquer it, but I don't exactly know how to do that without driving a car into the ocean. And that seems like a silly risk to take." And what did you know! He was right, they were almost there. It took every ounce of willpower not to break out into a sprint, and jump onto the deck and kiss it.

"I definitely would not advise that," Kylo said with his usual dry humor as they made their way up and up. Not far now. Maybe ten paces. "You will find, one day, the fear has gone. Replaced, likely, by something else but equally conquered on its own."

"I don't know. Maybe. This one has pretty much plagued me since I was a little girl. But it only bothers me on bridges that stretch over water." And they didn't have very many of those on the island. They'd had even fewer in Kansas. "If I suddenly get claustrophobia I'm screwed." Heather chuckled a little. Hopping the last step onto the deck, with a great sigh of relief.

Coming up alongside Heather, Kylo's hand moved from her hand to her back and gave it a light swipe of comfort. "Congratulations. You made it," he said kindly, quietly. They might be alone on a gigantic ship--so they thought--but he did not like to share affection publicly.

"Lead the way."

"I might just avoid the anxiety thing on the way back and jump overboard and swim to shore." That dreadful weight now off of her, she turned and grinned at him after he caressed her back.

"I'm assuming you haven't seen the movie for this ship. And I don't doubt that you'll think what I want to do next, after all of that," she waved toward the plank, "That I'm mildly insane." But she started toward the very point of the bow. Not that it would have the same effect, because the ship was still as a stone.

"Oh. Well if that is the case my opinion of you will not change," he said coolly as he followed after. His footsteps were heavy on the deck with his black boots like sturdy weights at the end of his legs. Yet he moved with ease despite the sound.

"Are you going to tell me what it is you're doing?"

Heather chuckled softly. "So I have nothing to worry about then." She had stuck with tennis shoes, rather than going with her big thick work boots, because she wanted to be light on her feet, just in case something creepy happened. She didn't want to hold things up if they had to book it.

"Well, in the movie, this guy climbs up on the front of the ship, on the little railing there." She waved toward the point in the bow. "And screams 'I'm the king of the world!' But I'm not going to do that part. Because, one, I don't have the parts to be a king, and two... The ship isn't moving."

There was a rumble like thunder and it was only after the fact did even Kylo Ren realize it was a laugh. He had but a slice of a smile on his face and the sound came from within his chest and throat, like a chuckle or a chortle, but it was his eyes that laughed the louded. He shook his head at her and made a motion for her to shoo, to go on and do the thing anyway.

"Might as well. You're here and would like to. Say 'Queen' instead. It will suffice."

Heather cherished every little bit. He wasn't one that laughed often. Or not yet, anyway. She hoped to get him to a point where it came easier. But the aftermath was just as pretty as the noise itself. And she gave him the warmest smile she could muster, when he shooed her.

There was a little skip in her step as she ran to the edge. The wind was still there, even if the ship was still. Carefully she climbed up on that first stile. Though that only really brought the top of the rail to waist height. "Think I could qualify as a Queen? Or am I to crude?"

Kylo came up behind Heather and stood only a few feet away, ready to grab at her if necessary. He watched her with mild amusement and then tilt his head slightly. "It's difficult to say. Many cultures qualify their Queens differently. Surely somewhere there is a crass one who enjoys motorcycle vibration."

"Well, in that case... I'm the Queen of some world that doesn't mind crass, motorcycle enjoying, women!" She screamed into the wind, raising her hands up off the top rail, while she leaned her weight against the corner section. Knowing she was safe. Knowing he would be there to catch her if anything happened. Heather wondered if anyone else was so lucky.

No one was lucky. There was only one stoic m, confused, inner self battling Knight of Ren.

Again, he chuckled to himself and crossed his arms as he watched her. Kylo did not move from his place otherwise, eyes vigilant for any sign of distress. Finally, he said, "you are incredibly unique." And left it at that.

Heather was careful as she stepped down. Turning to face him she had a big grin on her face. "Not the bad kind of unique I hope..." Though he was there with her, so she doubted it was a less than endearing quality. Or she hoped. "You don't want to try it?"

"I've done my fair share of standing on the bow of a ship yelling. I'll pass." Kylo then turned and took a single step before pausing to allow Heather to take up stride with him.

"Tell me more of this vessel"

And step up beside him she did. With a little bit of an extra step in her stride. She may have been a little more bouncy than usual. "Just to warn you, this is like a super fangirl stuff. I mean you, you're from my first..." Heather stopped for a second. "Your universe is one I adored first. My second love... This ship. So I am fighting the urge to squeal. Because the two worlds are colliding. In an unimaginable way. Especially when you ask me to tell you more about her." She fanned her face for the dramatics of it, because right that moment, since the anxiety of the bridge had faded, it was hitting her just how awesome the situation was.

Looking sidelong at Heather, Kylo Ren raised a brow once more and then glanced back ahead. "I often forget you know of everything beyond this island and I know nothing," he said. "Regardless, I am not going to stop you from your joy if this is what makes you happy. Go." He waved a hand in passing, aloft and fluid, before it found place at his side in a pocket while the other simply hung comfortably. "I will catch up."

"You aren't keeping me from being happy. I mean..." Heather turned to face him. Silent for a moment as she attempted to put her thoughts together better than she had. "I'd probably be half as weird, right now, if you weren't here with me. The fact that you are, that you're sharing this experience with me? It's like... " She didn't know how to express how very amazing the whole thing was. "I am literally over the moon. I could get sent back home to Jerhicho, and I wouldn't care who I told, and if it made them want to throw me in some padded room, I would tell whoever was listening, about you. About this." Her features softened from the gleeful fangirl expression to something of genuine heart felt care. "Especially about you. I know even with everything that has happened there, that's going to happen, that I'd feel a little bit safer, knowing you're somewhere out there. That maybe, even if it's just a small chance, that you'd try to come find me." She wasn't entirely confident in that last part, but it didn't show in her voice.

As Heather stopped and turned to speak to him, Kylo turned as well so he was listening with maximum effort and openness. He stood quiet, as he always did, nodding subtly in understanding or agreement with her statements. Then, when she was done, he turned and resumed walking several paces before pausing and looking back for her.

"I would never not find you," he said in a surprisingly caring tone for that deep timbre he spoke in. It rumbled like thunder, like that laugh.

"I have destroyed planets for less. I would destroy galaxies for you."

And he turned to continue their exploration, one hand holding itself out to the side for her to hurry up and take.

His sincerity almost choked her up. She'd heard that same thing before, or close to it, but he took a lot less time to say it. She sighed softly when she took his offered hand.

"I'd want to do the same. I don't know if I could, Earth's space travel isn't all that advanced. And I think the space centers got blown up." She wasn't sure that Kennedy was gone, but Houston had been hit. "I'd try though. Even if I was still trying when I'm old and grey." Though she wasn't sure she'd destroy anything.

The Knight glanced sidelong at her and nodded. "I know you would," he said and left it at that. Feelings, emotions, he was not very good at them. The fact he had said as much this far startled him. Likely, he wouldn't say anything like it again for a while. Even now his chest hurt, as if he were battling some sort of demon for a place of affection in his heart which was otherwise overrun with imps and black fire.

"Where is it you want to see?"

Heather would honestly say she felt the same ache. But she wasn't one that could hide it. Knowing he didn't do PDA, she discreetly rested her head against his shoulder for a moment. Her fingers lightly squeezing his, before she straightened up.

"I don't know, there's so much to see, it's hard to say what's next. Is there anywhere you want to go? I could totally do the tour guide thing. I can't tell you how many reports I did on the ship. After I was told I couldn't do them on your univers anymore."

Kylo Ren thought for a moment before nodding at her and gave another pass of his hand, this time the one she was not holding. "I would like the tour," he said. "I'm certain your reports were likely inaccurate, considering you have never been to any of our galaxies. It's probably best you chose something within your own realm of existence." At this he gave a teeny smile. He was teasing.

Heather grinned up at him. "Well, maybe. But it's far less cool. I was always sure that the teachers didn't see eye to eye with my point of view, and just didn't want to argue with a kid." That was just how much she'd liked his land of existence than she had her own. Even back then.

Clearing her throat, she gestured with her free hand around the deck. "This is the main deck, of course, but once the ship was on her way, only first class passengers, and crew members, were allowed up on the promenade. Even as she was sinking there were still crew members denying the lower classes up, until the very last moments when it was sink or swim. Because you see... There were only sixteen lifeboats," She pointed over to one of the mentioned boats, "because back then the amount that were regulation depended on tonnage, rather than the amount of passengers on board. They were considered an eyesore, and so the White Star Line went with bare minimum, because the ship was not supposed to be able to sink."

The man smiled just slightly at her as they walked, nodding. "I did not often see eye-to-eye with my instructor, either," he offered by way of agreement before listening to her tale.

"It has a very similar structure to several of the fleets I have participated with. Though, most of the men on board are stormtroopers and do not leave their quarters unless training or on duty around the ship."

"The adults hardly ever like being wrong, especially if someone young enough to be their kid points it out." Though now that she was well over the age of 21 she didn't find herself in that situation much. Heather grinned. "I often made mistakes on purpose so that my kids could point them out."

She chewed her lower lip. "The whole lifeboat thing though? I always wondered about that part." Her nose scrunched. "And how did you keep from knocking Hux on his butt?"

"I haven't. I guess I haven't realized there were enough that were school age." She'd have to reach out. It would give her something more solid to do, rather than looking for things to fix and improve.

Heather turned toward him. "Oh, babe, you should never, ever, google yourself. Sometimes google is very very ugly when it comes to what it likes and what it dislikes." She had learned that very early after her kidnapping to Ridgeway. But she also knew from the Guests, what the world, outside of her own, thought about her.

"Kids are easy, you respect them and they will respect you." Or that was her experience. There were a few that that tactic didn't work with, but only a few. "I will definitely ask around." She beamed up at him. Actually looking forward to some normalcy drifting her way.

Heather scrunched her nose. "I can only imagine what you found. I was faced with the people that wrote and drew the stuff that made Google a horible place, when it comes to your own reality, on a daily basis. I kinda know first hand how their minds work." She had a good idea what had put that look of distaste on his face.

"I disagree," Kylo said. "Children do not deserve respect. They do not make wise choices." Still, her smile warmed that cold heart and he touched the back of a finger to her cheek as she beamed.

"Enough of that. Tell me more of this ship. You did say you had many reports on the matter, and I am thoroughly versed in listening to reports." A tiny crack of a smirk came in response.

"Everybody deserves respect, because their choices are their's to make. When it comes to children, if their choices are bad ones, you help guide them to a better one, or helping them make their choice a good one." As he stroked her cheek her smile turned to something filled with love and adoration. Her heart lept.

Her smile returned and she stood so she could point at both the bow and the stern, when she raised her arms. "At the time she entered service it was the world's largest man made moving object, spanning 882 feet. And it took 176 men to keep her moving by shoveling 600 tones of coal into its furnaces a day."
