With House and Oskar gone, Cuddy knew all too well how much it would hurt if she lost anyone else, especially Giles. An than it happened, making her feel like someone had reached inside her chest and tore her heart right out. The sense of hopelessness only grew after she gave birth when the hormones and the sleep deprivation had worn her down. She'd found ways to continue on and care for her children, but allowing herself to believe that Giles was back to stay felt too risky. Losing him again would plunge her into an even deeper depression.
