While Peggy wasn't surprised that Steve woke up, part of her wished he'd stayed in his dreamless slumber since he so rarely got any these days in particular. He had taken the news as poorly as she had and they had all walked around on eggshells in a haze. As his head lay against her, Peg ran her fingertips down his messed-up hair, finding it a comforting action. She was tired of this atmosphere and wanted to erase the last few weeks from her head entirely, like a giant reset button. But the world didn't work like that, not even here. They'd have to all live with this forever.
As Bucky seemingly ran off to the bathroom to throw up, Peggy sighed and looked down at Steve on her lap. "What are we going to do?" she muttered, for once feeling completely lost and at sea. "I never thought I'd feel so lost in all my life. This is nearly as bad as after I lost you."
